This honey, made by Waitemata Honey Company won the top award for creamed honey at the National Beekeepers Association of NZ annual competition; 2014: “GOLD AWARD AND TROPHY, CREAMED HONEY”.
The trophy applies to all creamed honeys, regardless of variety. Nearly all honey in New Zealand is creamed, so it could be said that in 2014 it was the best honey in New Zealand.
The Pohutukawa tree is native to New Zealand. It is an extremely hardy tree that tolerates the most difficult and exposed coastal conditions. Because it flowers for a short time only over the Christmas period it is also referred to as “New Zealand Christmas Tree”. Pure Pohutukawa Honey has a delicate, subtle flavour with a slight salty tang and creamy texture. It is probably the rarest honey from New Zealand, and one of the whitest in the world.
Waitemata Honey is not pasteurised and is packed in BPA free plastic jars. It is fully traceable to its source.
